NOKAbout the project
After nearly a decade of work in Taplejung, Human Practice Foundation (HPF) is launching Schools of Excellence—a new initiative designed to secure lasting improvements in education.
Nine model schools will be established as hubs for quality learning, teacher development, and community engagement. These schools will not only serve their own students but also support surrounding schools, raising standards across the district.
The ambition is clear: to move from externally driven progress to locally owned, sustainable systems that continue to deliver results long after the project ends.
What Kavli Trust funding will support
The Kavli Trust’s funding will enable the rollout of the model over two years, supporting:
- continuous teacher training and improved learning outcomes
- student support, career guidance, and skills development
- systems for school maintenance, safety, and operations
- stronger parental involvement and community ownership
- increased capacity within local governments to manage education
By prioritising early intervention, prevention, and long-term capacity building, the project ensures that gains are not only protected—but scaled.
