NOKAbout the collaboration
With a grant of NOK 5 million, Kavli Trust continues its multi-year collaboration with Sveriges Stadsmissioner to tackle food waste and food poverty. The support will enable Sveriges Stadsmissioner to establish five new Matmissionen stores in 2025 and 2026 in areas of Sweden where the need for food assistance is greatest.
The sustainable food store concept allows people in financial hardship to purchase surplus food donated by the grocery sector at heavily reduced prices.
The stores, which will total 20 locations after the expansion, also redistribute food to organisations that support people who are unable to shop for or prepare their own meals.
What the funding from Kavli Trust will support
Kavli Trust is supporting the project with NOK 5 million. The funding will go towards establishing the five new stores – a phase that is often the biggest barrier to getting the service up and running.
The support is intended to act as a catalyst for further funding, enabling the concept to scale and reach even more people. The goal is for the stores to become financially self-sustaining while creating lasting impact in local communities.
About Sveriges Stadsmissioner
Sveriges Stadsmissioner is a membership organisation for ten regional city missions across Sweden. Together, they work for a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to participate and shape their own lives.
Through open meeting places, initiatives for children and families, housing and care services, and employment training, the organisation meets people in vulnerable life situations across the country.
