Health and Development - Niger

Together with Anders Seim and Health Development International, the Kavli Trust is pursuing a village-based project for women in western Niger.

The aim is to save female lives and protect their dignity by preventing injuries associated with obstetric fistula during childbirth. This condition has now been virtually eradicated in the project area, the proportion of women giving birth at a health centre is rising sharply, and maternal mortality has fallen no less than 70 per cent.
