Washington Mind, UK
Washington Mind, based in Sunderland, UK, is one of 130 independent Mind associations. It offers a wide range of activities and services to help people experiencing emotional or mental distress to regain their full potential in life and work. Their mission is to work in partnership with the community to promote recovery and improve mental health and wellbeing for all.
One of their core activities is to promote mastery and increased self-esteem in exposed youth through cultural activities.
Washington Mind’s work is preventive and treating children and adolescents at the age of 11-25 years with a variety of presenting issues including bereavement, family breakdown bullying, young carers, and young people who have witnessed domestic abuse.
Their “Young People’s Project” has six counsellors in post. With a participatory approach they routinely work in partnership with young people across the City of Sunderland.
