Sarita Skagnes - India
Sarita Skagnes shows how people can escape from abuse and use their own life experience to help others.
She supports two help organisations in India – the Grameen Shramik Pratishthan (GSP) home for the blind and the Aple Ghar children’s home.
The GSP project seeks to strengthen blind women by developing their expertise in such vocational activities as weaving and physiotherapy.
Built after a big earthquake in 1993, Aple Ghar is a well-run home where 250 children get schooling, food, play and cultural activities.
It is currently helping a number of girls studying to become midwives, doctors, auditors and pharmacists – educations they could never have obtained without support from Skagnes and the Kavli Trust.
