New Writing North

New Writing North supports writers at all stages of their careers and has over 20 years’ experience in working with schools and in communities to support young people to write.

Their Young Writers programme is a creative writing and arts programme, targeting young people who have less opportunity to engage in cultural activity.

The programme runs weekly creative writing groups across the North East, annual summer schools, a talent investment scheme and regular masterclasses and development programmes.

Funding from Kavli Trust brings the Young Writers programme to Gateshead.

This research-led project aims to make change in young people’s lives with writers and artists working with them to introduce them to artistic self expression and new cultural experiences, to support them to develop their own artworks, and to provide progression routes so that they can continue their own personal cultural journey, as creators and/or consumers of culture.
