The British Red Cross
The British Red Cross is the UK’s leading emergency response charity, with 3,600 staff and over 29,000 trained volunteers responding quickly and effectively to crises. The Red Cross has a long and established tradition of providing practical and emotional support to vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers in the UK, and has a wealth of experience in providing ESOL, IT and Life skills training to asylum seekers and refugees new to the UK.
The Project
The project will support 60 vulnerable Third Country National families (TCNs) and 30 young asylum seekers and refugees based in Glasgow to access ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and lifeskills training over a period of 12 months.
We are targeting these newly arrived legal migrants, who have arrived post family reunion, to ensure that they are better able to integrate through accessible education and social activities. The ESOL sessions will improve integration through developing sufficient ‘Survival English’ to enable learners to independently access various areas including education, housing, health services and employment.
